What is the process for getting the FBI to investigate a spouse?
Given that our agency comprises former FBI, DEA, IRS, and Secret Service agents, we are uniquely qualified to answer this question.
Getting a government agency to investigate a spouse, or any subject, for that matter, requires you to provide probable cause that a federal crime or statute has been violated. This includes, but is not limited to, evidence, financial records, and documentation that a federal crime may have been committed.
Every government agent must meet strict legal and jurisdictional criteria to open an investigation. However, the FBI is not required or mandated to investigate personal matters such as spousal infidelity, marital disputes or custody battles.
The three-letter agencies are interested in a broad breath of crimes such as:
- Drug Trafficking
- Organized Crime
- Terrorism
- Fraud
- Cybercrimes
- Human Trafficking
- Public Corruption
These agents are sworn to serve. Make sure when you call or write about items, that they are in their investigative wheelhouse.
