How much does a private investigator make per case in Los Angeles, California?
Our agency has been in this area for 43 years. There are generally four areas where work is completed in Southern California. These sectors are also a good guideline for the entire U.S.:
1.) Attorneys
2.) Corporations
3.) Insurance Companies
4.) The Public
Our casework is relatively consistent, divided equally among the four at 25% each. For the vast majority, we receive a retainer and bill at an hourly rate plus expenses.
Our rates range from $150.00 to $300.00/hour, depending on the services provided. Surveillances are charged at $150.00/hour, while “interviews and interrogations” in corporate America are billed at $300.00/hour. The amount received by the investigator working for the company is commensurate with his experience, expertise, and time at the agency. We command these figures because our staff primarily comprises former federal agents.
There are also flat-rate assignments:
1.) Locating friends and family: $750.00
2.) Asset searches: $1,500.00 to $4,800.00
3.) Background investigations: $1,500.00
4.) Electronic eavesdropping detection sweeps, which are done by sq. footage, with our minimum fee being $3,975.00.
Most PIs do not publicize their pricing because it is too transparent and locks them in when a big company calls. However, all these prices are also on our website. Does your PI list their pricing?
