Cheating at Comic Con

Yesterday we reported on a case as it was actually unfolding: A man hired us to follow his wife via a train to San Diego, as she was to attend the festivities at Comic-Con.

Here is the how that case worked out. The wife ended up having more on her schedule than she had shared with her husband.

Last night, two of our investigators maintained surveillance in the lobby area of the hotel where the wife and girlfriend checked into separate rooms. We didn’t have to wait long for both females to appear coming off the elevator. They were followed to an upscale Italian restaurant a short distance from the hotel.

It appeared they had a reservation as they were seated at a table for 4 in a desired and secluded part of the restaurant. Both ordered white wine. The time was 7:10pm.

8 minutes later, they were joined by two male subjects and all four politely hugged and greeted each other. Photos were taken of all the subjects and immediately forwarded to our client. He identified one of the male subjects as his neighbor in Los Angeles, while the other subject was unknown to him.

The key would now be to determine if and who might pair off together.

At 9:05pm, all four subjects departed the restaurant and were followed to a local wine bar in the area. It appeared that our client’s wife and the neighbor were an item, as they walked together in front of the other two subjects. At this establishment, it became more obvious as the neighbor was observed to move the wife’s hair from in front of her eyes and gently kiss her on the lips. All of this was captured on video.

At 10:10pm, the wife and neighbor exchanged pleasantries with the other couple and departed. One of our investigators followed them back to the hotel. The wife, neighbor and the investigator all rode the same elevator up to the 14th floor. At this point the couple were observed to be holding hands and kissing. They both were observed entering the wife’s room. Again, all of this activity was captured by the investigator on video, using a small camera in the lining of his jacket. The investigator put a penny placed upward at the bottom of the door.

The second investigator advised that the other couple was observed returning to the hotel where the male subject retrieved his vehicle from valet. They departed the area together.

This morning, an investigator returned to check the door of the wife’s room at 6:35am. The penny was unmoved, indicating that no one left the room during the evening or morning hours.

At 7:40am, the male subject was observed coming off the elevator in the lobby area. He went to valet, retrieved a vehicle and departed the area.

The client was advised of his wife’s activities and requested that we deliver two copies of the video to his home. He wanted to have one copy to place on his wife’s pillow upon her return home. The other was to be given to the neighbor’s wife.

We provided our client with the names of three first-class family law attorneys in the Los Angeles area. He hoped to meet and retain one of them as soon as possible.

As with most of our martial surveillance cases, there was no good comic book ending.
